How did Lewis and Clark Charter get started ?
In the Spring of 2006, we received a Federal Grant to develop a proposal for a new Elementary Charter School in the Gresham-Barlow School District incorporating Montessori Education Curriculum.
What makes Montessori Different ?
Montessori education is built on the tenet that all learners are individuals - in style, pace, and interests. The individualized Montessori curriculum at Lewis and Clark Charter School allows children to strive for their own personal best.
Students will be grouped into mixed-age classrooms that span three years in the elementary program and two in the middle school program. These mixed classrooms provide a greater range of curriculum options and reduced competition. Older children teach younger children, building confidence and competence. Peer tutoring also promotes cooperation and a sense of community.
Is Montessori Right for My Child ?
Any student who would benefit from a quality, individualized learning environment specifically designed to promote engagement in learning activities will be well suited for a Montessori classroom.
